The Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics invites you to Erasmus Data Summit 2021. Every year the Erasmus Data Summit explores relevant topics and questions regarding the societal impact of data and AI. This year, the topic of the Summit is ‘Data – Who is in Control?’ – a controversial question with no answers yet. Society is more and more dependent on the use of data and AI. However, are we as individuals and as organizations still in control of our data? Or are we loosing grip on who owns, controls and (mis)uses our data. To what degree should we allow that consumers release their data, in return for services by big tech companies, enabled by new inventions in data science? How can national and EU regulations on data and AI provide a framework to strengthen control on the use of data and AI?

The Erasmus Data Summit provides a platform among corporations, academia and public institutions to discuss some of the challenges and solutions. In just one afternoon, the audience of the Summit should gain a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges regarding control in data and AI, and should be presented by relevant examples and use cases by experts from different fields.

This year’s Summit will begin with a welcome by ECDA’s executive director, Gerrit Schipper, and will continue with an official opening by Prof. Ed Brinksma, president of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The program features several keynote speakers, inspiring fire chat sessions and ends with a roundtable debate on control over data.
